Evaluation of COMPETENCE and assurance of COMPLIMENTARITY was the main objective of workshop.

Critical Analysis of Projects & Activities

Activity Conducted   Objective of the Activity Observations What could have been done better?
Project-1(MS PowerPoint) To make children familiar with the interface and various elements of PowerPoint with the help of a story. Story helped children to understand things easily. Availability of more laptops would have brought more effectiveness to the activity.
Project-2(MS PowerPoint) To make children familiar with animations and transitions. Animation was the most interesting part for many students. Making a flying text and an image fascinated them. A separate day for animation and transition could have given them in depth knowledge to use PowerPoint.
Ice-breaker To Introduce yourself with your actions. Children were ecstatic NA
Project-1(MS Word) To make children familiar with the interface and various elements of MS Word with the help of a scenery. Due to familiarity with PowerPoint, children easily understood the interface and elements of MS Word.   A basic introduction for some shortcut keys would have made everything more convenient and faster.
Project-2(MS Word) To help children in making certificate using borders, text box, Word Art, etc.
Schools should have… To enhance observational skill, expressing creativity. Students had a lot in their mind but some of them were not able to express it in the way they were willing to. We could have asked for children for reasons, like why do they need those things in their school?
Learning Faster To use visual memory techniques for fast and long-lasting memory. Children were curious to experiment in their verbal and visual memories. One more example of story making would have helped them to understand visual memory to a greater extent.
What should we do? To increase social awareness and thinking capability, problem solving ability. Children had a lot of questions to ask. Some of them gave suggestions without looking at the other aspects of their solutions. A separate Q&A session could have been more engaging and interesting.
Find your member To introduce the concept of synonyms, to make children aware of some basic words and their synonyms. Some children were unable to pronounce the words. The words could have been taught using pictures for better understanding.
Verb charades To help them understand verbs, finding verb in a sentence Most of them were familiar with verbs but they enjoyed the game. More verbs could have been added and integrated with pictures.
Overall Project To enjoy their areas of interests, learning skills, feeling cooperation, brotherhood and team work Keen learners- “Skills’ with ‘Values”. No competition or opposition while doing activities. Fast learners may be encouraged for taking responsibility of slow learners.

      Self-Learning

      • We learned the art of asking better questions, question that lead to deeper insights? Also to be prepared with appropriate answers suiting to their level of understanding.
For example – we told kids, tree brings more rain. They asked how?

We learnt that holistic knowledge is important before facilitating others-
      • We learnt openness is one of key component when it comes to learning something. One should be open to new views, ideas, and perspectives and to more importantly to new people as it strengthens the soft skills. That day kids participated with openness in our session, met with so much warmth.
      • We learnt that curiosity to KNOW is very natural, and being a mentor gives real satisfaction.
      • We should always have a learning attitude.
      • Also, we should always grab opportunities and utilize it to the maximum.

      Suggestions

In our 4 days sessions with children, we got an opportunity to look at the EDUCATIONAL ECOSYSTEM from different angles which subsequently gave us the insight into the brilliant minds of children full of questions, creativity and zeal. This workshop wasn’t just one dimensional but a multi-dimensional learning experience for all the stakeholders. Hence, we felt to enhance this ecosystem, we would need more collaboration and exchange of ideas to make the learning for children holistic and multidisciplinary in nature.
Here are some of the recommendations from our side that we want to share with you and if any of the below suggestion deem fit to you and feasible to implement, we will be happy to collaborate with you and assist you on the implementation strategy and action plan for the below ideas -

      • Incorporating Feedback and Stories: We strongly recommend that we must conduct sessions where we focus on the stories of children. Children must be encouraged to tell how they feel, what they feel and how the environment is at home so as to know what the child is going through. Why do I feel is this important? Because this will help us to make suitable interventions accordingly. Also, feedback to student is equally important than teaching. We should make use to impart good lessons to them when their age is ripe.
Listening student needs is very important.
      • Building a Garden: We believe be a garden in school can be source of vast amount of learning spectrum offering wide range of applications in Natural Science, Mathematics, Soft skills and Civic Sense.Growing food or planting a seed would teach them the value of precious resources like water, sunlight, soil. With this, we can impart proper garbage disposal lessons too.
      • Free to ask sessions: There should be a “Free to ask” sessions frequently, for students where they can ask various questions wandering in their minds. This will help them to formulate good questions. Also, they will learn from questions asked by their peers.
      • Stressing on Visual Learning: We came to know that children engage more deeply and understand much faster when there are visuals so we will recommend to use more and more visuals while delivering lesson/lecture. We even proved this by one of the activities.
      • Introduction to Coding: World is majorly dependent on programming, everything we see today is linked to coding. Children should be made aware about basic programming and its benefits because many schools have started introducing coding from 6th In our workshop, we found children are quite adept at learning computer skills and were relatively comfortable and ecstatic to work on them. Therefore, we believe we should harness their potential and curiosity. As Einstein puts it “Curious minds have the potential to disrupt the status quo”.
      • Harnessing the potential of Videos/Movies to shape children behavior and their learning: We observed that motions, visuals or anything put on screen immediately adds to the attention span of children. These days vast amount of meaningful documentaries are driven with important message and lessons which can be used for addressing two things among children –
Writing skills: As per our observations, there is lot of room for improvement and we could use this tool or medium to refine the skills effectively. And,
Broader Perspective: inculcating a good lessons and broader understanding of society and world.
As put by famous philosopher Charles Baldwin “Education is not merely finishing textbooks but a broader understanding of society and the universe which significantly affects one’s life”
      • Enhanced Engagement: To engage more with passionate youth or youth organizations as it will lead to significant exposure to kids and to youth themselves. We can say for certainty that day of the workshop, we learnt equally or may be more than the kids did. Also, school can be benefited from the knowledge and energy the youth brings.
