sd-Engineers Day (15 September, 07)

Boys who are slight and quiet, but boys who are strong and true,
Dreaming of great inventions – always of something new;
With brains untrammeled by training, but quick where reason directs
Boys with imagination and unclouded intellects.

They long for the crank and belting, the gear and the whirring wheel,
The stamp of the giant hammer, the glint of the polished steel.
For the mould and the vice n the lathe, they are boys, long for the keys
To the doors of the world's Mechanics and Science's mysteries.

They would be makers of fabrics, of cloth for the continents –
Makers of mighty engines and delicate instruments;
It is they who would set fair cities on the western plains far out,
They who would garden the deserts n who would conquer the drought

They see the dykes to the skyline, where a dust-waste blazes to-day,
And they hear the lap of the waters on the miles of sand and clay;
They see the rainfall increasing, and the boundless sweeps of grass,
And all the year on the rivers the strings of barges pass.

For these young engineers the day was celebrated, which is originally the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (1860-1965), a wizard in engineering. The eve was graced by Dr RS Varshney (E-in-C (Retd) Irrigation Deptt. UP and Shri AB Giri, Director & CEO (Power), Bhilwara Group. Other dignitaries gracing the occasion were Chairman Mr. SS Jain, Treasurer Mr. Lalit Jaiswal, Director Dr. Om Vikas, Former Director Prof. RK Bassi, AD Admn Prof. AK Giri, AD Acad Prof SL Kapoor and Pr Mgmt School Prof. RK Dwivedi. The programme was hosted by Dr Upasana Mishra, Sr Lecturer (EvS). Dream of nation, pride of college and hope of their parents, our future engineers were presented a beautiful cultural bonanza also at the end of the programme. It was a cheerful eve enjoyed and appreciated by all.

  2. explore new areas of possible collaborations
  3. push forward wider scientific co-operation in man’s eternal quest for the unknown
  4. establish libraries, reading rooms, mobile libraries and mobile laboratories for diffusion of knowledge
  5. extend assistance to the poor and deserving by the way of providing scholarships, coaching classes, and other means judged appropriate by the Society
  6. publication of ISHT journal

Activities undertaken are-

    1. Workshop on Engineering Education is getting organized in 4-phases starting from mid October.
    2. Call for papers for the first volume of the journal scheduled to be published in January 2008 and application process for ISSN number are under process
    3. Competitions on technical paper writing for the students is being organized

sCentre for Localization and Open Technologies (CLOT)- C- LOT is set up with the following objectives:

    1. To keep repository of available technologies in open domain,
    2. To develop user-friendly Human Computer Interface in local languages,
    3. To promote W3C standards in developing software tools and utilities,
    4. To organize workshops for evolving instructional methodology to introduce multilingual computing in education and training  on business processing.

s-New Exam methodologies- The first sessional examination of the odd semester of 2007-08 was conducted successfully between 17th and 20th September 2007.
On clear directions from the Director, the running and monitoring the process was taken up as an exercise in Project Management. This required some innovations over the existing system to make it more effective in terms of allocation of duties, reduction of use of unfair means, faster method of cross checking of attendance of students, distribution of question papers and collection and dispatch of answer sheets at the Control Room.

The need was a single document, like a thread, which would help everyone involved with the above concerns. The “Seating Plan” of individual exam halls proved to be just the right document to keep track of all these activities. Mixed seating of students of different branches and years was

adopted as a method for avoiding use of unfair means. Effective distribution of question papers, (in some cases 4 subjects were answered from a single hall), cross checking of answer sheets against the seating plan helped quick acceptance of answer sheets at the Control Room, but also proved useful for collection and dispatch to individual departments.
There has been a tremendous response of faculty and staff from each and every department for vital activities such as invigilation. Given below are some figures, which speak volumes of the dedication and zeal of participation. The Institute expects the same level of cooperation and team work for the future.

s-Infosys Campus Connect Program
Campus Connect Program is a unique academia-industry initiative by Infosys to “architect the education experience”. Its goal is to build a sustainable partnership with engineering education institutions in India and abroad for mutual benefit, producing “industry ready” recruits.
The idea is to train the students for Technical as well as Softskill. The technical is divided into 9 modules covering the technical subjects. The training is imparted through the faculty of college. For this faculty go for training program at Infosys for both Technical and Softskill. IPEC became part of this program in June 2006 with Prof. S.L. Kapoor as SPOC (single point of contact) for Infosys. Since then two batches have been enrolled for campus connect program.

During this session in the month July the softskill program was initiated for the students of B.Tech 3rd year and MCA 2nd year. Faculty from different departments conducted this training, after attending the softskill workshop at IPECorganized by Ms. Shuchita Sharma and Ms. Sarika Gupta. Then a Roadshow was conducted by Infosys in the month of August, where the interacted with the 3rd year B.Tech and 2nd year MCA students.
In the month of September, Ms. Shuchita Sharma and Ms. Sonia Dhawan attended 5 day Softskill workshop at Infosys Chandigarh. Currently the B.Tech 3rd and MCA 2nd are undergoing the Infosys campus connect technical training. These students were shortlisted as per the aptitude test organized in September. The classes are conducted by Mr. Manish Mahajan and Mr. Rizwan Khan.
The infosys campus connect program has resulted in enhancement of placement for our students since last two years.

x-Extract from Director’s address- On Engineer’s Day (September15, 07)
Mankind has witnessed several technological revolutions leading to Global Economy.  Joseph Schumpeter, the economist, saw capitalism moving in long waves: Every 60 years or so technological revolutions would cause “gales of creative destructions” in which old industries would be swept away and replaced by new ones. 5 long waves since 1780’s are- Steam engine, Railways, Electric Power, Cheap Oil and currently, Information Revolution.
Due to rapid technological advancements, price – performance ratio is drastically improving. Technology races to human brain. Future prosperity of rich economies will depend on their ability to innovate and to adjust to change.
New order of the knowledge based society, in order to keep harmony & peace, will be based on the principle of 3Rs: Rise higher & higher, Raise thy neighbours, and Race to the limits of imaginations.
The Engineers are expected to exhibit highest standards of knowledge, honesty, politeness and integrity. The Engineers, in their professional behaviour, must-

  • Promote collectivistic culture
  • Think globally and act locally
  • Collaborate for innovation & compete for excellence
  • Teach wisdom and motivate for knowledge
