Indraprastha Engineering College (IPEC), Ghaziabad, successfully organized a two-day Internal Smart India Hackathon 2025 on 12th and 13th September. Around 900 students across 150 teams participated in the event, with each team comprising six members. The aim was to showcase their talent in technological innovation, problem-solving, and startup culture.From these, the top 50 teams were shortlisted, who will now represent the college at the national level competition.
Growing Impact of Smart India Hackathon in the Country
The Smart India Hackathon has become one of the largest platforms for youth innovation in India. According to official data, the number of institutional-level hackathons rose from 900 in 2023 to 2,247 in 2024, registering about 150% growth.
This year, the competition focused on 17 major themes, including healthcare, education, agriculture, smart technology, water conservation, and sustainable development. More than 250 problem statements were presented by government departments, industries, and organizations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have described SIH as a “laboratory for nation-building” where the youth can channel their creativity for the progress of society and the nation.
Innovation, Energy, and New Ideas at IPEC
The event at IPEC was inaugurated by Vice President Puneet Agarwal, who emphasized that the institute continuously encourages students’ innovation and creativity.
Dean of Academics, Prof. Amit Jain, appreciated participants for their hard work and remarked that such competitions not only enhance technical knowledge but also develop teamwork and leadership qualities.
Priyanka Gupta, CEO of IPEC-TBI (Technology Business Incubator), highlighted the role of the incubation center in supporting startups. She shared that IPEC-TBI provides students with facilities such as mentorship, networking, grants, and guidance to establish startups.
Conclusion
Event Coordinator and SPOC Arvind Tiwari expressed gratitude to the management, judges, mentors, faculty, and participants. He noted that the real success of the event was the enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and dedication of the students.
The Internal Hackathon at IPEC proved to be more than a competition—it was a platform where students not only prepared for national-level challenges but also demonstrated that they are creators of solutions and innovation for the future of the country.
